American Red Cross Announces Honorary Chair for 9th Annual Moonlight & Magnolias Fundraiser

For decades, the American Red Cross has assisted Mississippians - says Secretary Hosemann

(FLOWOOD, MS) July 27, 2016 – The American Red Cross is pleased to announce Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann as the Honorary Chair for the 9th Annual Moonlight & Magnolias fundraiser. The event is scheduled to take place on August 20th at the Beau Rivage Resort and Casino. It promises to be a spectacular evening of food, music, dancing and fun.

Secretary Hosemann has long served the citizens of the State of Mississippi. He was Chairman of the Board of Mississippi Blood Services and Treasurer of the Jackson Medical Mall Association and served on the Board of Directors for Jackson State University Development Foundation. He was a Paul Harris Fellow and is a member of the North Jackson Rotary Club. Some of his accolades include the George L. Phillips Community Service Award from the US Department of Justice in appreciation for his distinguished service as Chairman of Project Safe Neighborhoods, and for his efforts in the Hurricane Katrina First Responder Assistance Project. Delbert was also awarded the J. Tate Thigpen Award for exemplary leadership, support, and commitment to the American Red Cross.

“For decades, the American Red Cross has assisted Mississippians in times of need,” says Secretary Hosemann. “When disasters strike, the American Red Cross steps in. It has been my honor to work with them and serve as the Honorary Chair for this year’s Coast fundraiser.”

The American Red Cross of Mississippi responded to over 1,700 home fires this year and Red Cross volunteers installed 5,400 free smoke alarms in homes in Mississippi. The Red Cross also provided emergency relief efforts to 5 disasters from July 1, 2015 – June 30, 2016. Money raised from the event will benefit the local Red Cross Chapter.

“Our goal is to make Mississippi safe and prepared and we can’t do that without the support of our leaders in Mississippi. We are honored that Secretary Hosemann has accepted the role of honorary chair,” said Red Cross Southeast Mississippi Chapter Executive Director John McFarland.
