The Grigg-Lewis Foundation today presented a check for over $7,000 to the American Red Cross. This gift will be used to cover the costs of Red Cross relief efforts following an industrial fire in Lockport in August.

After the August 10 fire forced the evacuation of several neighborhoods, a Red Cross workforce of 45, including 36 volunteers:

·         Opened a shelter at North Park Junior High with nine registrations;

·         Served 389 meals and snacks;

·         Used two Emergency Response Vehicles (ERVs) to distribute 3,456 clean-up and comfort kits for families directly in areas impacted by this disaster.

“We are so grateful for the Grigg-Lewis Foundation’s support of our efforts in the Niagara County community,” said Chuck Marra, Executive Director of the American Red Cross, Western New York Chapter. “When this fire forced people to evacuate their homes at a moment’s notice, our volunteers responded immediately to help those affected, just as they did after 90 house fires and other disasters in Niagara County last year. The Red Cross is only able to help give hope to our neighbors in their time of need thanks to the year-round support of individuals and organizations such as the Grigg-Lewis Foundation.”

This generous donation is just the latest example of support the Grigg-Lewis Foundation has provided to the American Red Cross. The Foundation also makes an annual gift of thousands of dollars to support the work of the Red Cross, and the foundation’s founder and primary benefactor, Henrietta Grigg Lewis, was a long-time volunteer with the Red Cross in Eastern Niagara County.
