The deadline is near to submit nominations for the 9th Annual Real Heroes Breakfast, hosted by the Southern Tier Chapter of the American Red Cross. The event will be held on Thursday, May 10 at DoubleTree by Hilton, Binghamton.
The deadline for nominations is Friday, Feb. 16.
Proceeds from the Real Heroes Breakfast support Red Cross programs and services such as disaster response, preparedness education, and Service to the Armed Forces. The Southern Tier Chapter serves Broome, Chenango, Tioga and Tompkins Counties.
Last year, the chapter responded to 67 local disaster incidents while assisting 131 families; made 204 households safer through the installation of 461 free smoke alarms as part of the Home Fire Campaign; trained 7,750 people in first aid, CPR and water safety skills; reconnected 136 military families via emergency communications services; and collected 18,549 blood donations from volunteer donors.
Every now and then, an unselfish and extraordinary action on behalf of a neighbor, a co-worker or even a stranger can change another person’s destiny and, at the same time, their own. At that moment, ordinary people become real heroes.
There are 12 award categories: Animal Rescue, Blood Donor/Services, Education, Fire Rescue, Good Neighbor, Good Samaritan (Adult), Good Samaritan (Youth), Law Enforcement, Lifeline, Medical, Military and Workplace Safety.
