Join the New Jersey Red Cross April 21 for Giving Day!
Every 8 minutes, the American Red Cross responds to a disaster. Think about that for a quick second. Eight minutes from now, the American Red Cross will be deployed at another disaster to provide much needed relief for those who are affected and in desperate need. Every year, the Red Cross responds to nearly 66,000 disasters nationwide – the vast majority of these are home fires – where a family has lost everything; the roof over their heads, their clothes, and their most cherished possessions.
Last year in New Jersey, the Red Cross responded to 889 home fires and provided emotional support and emergency assistance to 1,820 displaced families for temporary lodging, food, clothing and other immediate needs. Red Cross volunteers remain available to the families for support, counseling and referrals to local agencies that may provide long-term assistance during their recovery.
Giving Day is on April 21, 2016 and we need your support to make a meaningful impact for those who desperately need shelter, food, and other essentials after a disaster strikes their community.
“Imagine if every American helped just one family in the U.S.,” said Red Cross President and CEO Gail J. McGovern. “Think of how much good we could do – together – on Giving Day.”
This one-day event is designed to rally the public to support the Red Cross’s critical and lifesaving mission of helping families who have been affected by disasters or emergencies. The 2016 theme of our Giving Day is #Help1Family, because the Red Cross is committed to aiding people during their darkest hour and when they need it most.
