We know there are many unsung heroes in our community, and we look forward to having the opportunity to honor five individuals for their acts of heroism.

Local Heroes to be recognized at Red Cross Luncheon on April 28th

The Mid-West TN Chapter of the American Red Cross will host their annual Heroes Luncheon event on Thursday, April 28 at 12 p.m. at the Carl Perkins Civic Center in Jackson. This year’s event will honor five local heroes for their exceptional community service.

Guests will hear from keynote speaker, Vallie Collins. As a sales person, travel was a key requirement of Vallie’s job. As a result, Vallie was a passenger on US Airways Flight 1549, which landed in New York’s Hudson River on January 15, 2009. Vallie will share the details of her experience during the flight and rescue of the event that has become known as the “Miracle on the Hudson.” In addition, she will share key discoveries from the experience that will hopefully inspire and motivate all to treasure each day.

Local heroes to be honored at the luncheon are:

Humanitarian of the Year: James Ross, West Tennessee Healthcare

Uniformed Hero of the Year: Officer Michael Clayborn and Officer Joey Brown, Brownsville Police Department

Red Cross Volunteer of the Year: David Brumley

Red Cross Distinguished Service Member: Randy Love
