American Red Cross volunteers were honored by the Methuen Housing Authority Thursday for their service to the residents of the Methuen Housing Authority.
On Sept. 20 American Red Cross volunteers were called to a fire that had affected three buildings of the senior housing complex at Edgewood Avenue. One building was so badly damaged the residents needed to move. With many of their belongings damaged, they needed help with their recovery.
Volunteers, working with donations from the American people, provided emergency funds for clothing for those who had lost them in the fire. Some were given funds for linens and bedding for their new apartments, having lost those. And all were given emergency funds for food while they were displaced.
At the Nov. 7 meeting of the Methuen Housing Authority Board of Commissioners, Chairman Robert Sheehan presented a thank you to the volunteers of the American Red Cross: Tom Vozzella, Mark Holden, Jody Power and Deb Duxbury. They were also thanked in person by a number of the residents who were helped in September and are now settled in their new homes. First responders from the police and fire departments were also recognized.
