Red Cross Supports Dozens after Hyannis Fire

User News Image

On Saturday, November 15, the American Red Cross of the Cape, Islands and Southeast Massachusetts responded to a fire affecting 3 buildings in Hyannis. 17 Red Cross Disaster Action Team volunteers worked late into the night Saturday in order to assist the 40 people displaced by providing the means to get food, clothing, medications and access to resources in order to help those affected get back on their feet.

Red Cross caseworkers worked closely with local partners such as Housing Assistance Corporation, the Needy Fund and the Barnstable Housing Authority to ensure that families who could not return to their units received temporary housing. Our caseworkers will continue to aid those affected as they move forward.

The American Red Cross is not a government funded organization and therefore relies on the generosity of our donors combined with the hard work of our volunteers in order to provide services such as teaching important life-saving skills, providing over half of our nation's blood supply, providing disaster response services, and supporting our Armed Forces members and their families.
