This past month, the Red Cross of the Cape, Islands and Southeast Massachusetts received a grant of $20,000 from the Yawkey Foundation. This contribution goes towards supporting local disaster responses on the Cape and Islands in the form of increasing the regions capacity to assist and support individuals and their communites during local disasters such as house fires, floods and accidents and the operation of mass care and sheltering facilities during larger disasters.
The Yawkey Foundation dedicates itself to supporting philanthropic endeavors and organizations throughout the Northeast, with roots in Boston as past owners of the Boston Red Sox. The foundation is interested in focusing on organizations that provide education and care to people in need.
This years donation comes as a continuation of Yawkey Foundation support for our chapter over many years and brings their total support to $250,000! The American Red Cross is not a government funded organization and thus relies on the generosity of groups and individuals in order to continue our mission of preventing and alleviating human suffering.
"We are grateful for the Yawkey Foundation's continued support of our chapter as it allows us to go on providing disaster relief services to our neighboring communities." - Hilary Greene, Executive Director of the Cape, Islands and Southeast Massachusetts.
