The American Red Cross of West Michigan would like to thank members of the Filipino community within Ottawa and Kalamazoo Counties for raising more than $25,000 in support of Red Cross relief efforts in the Philippines.
In Ottawa County, local representatives of the Filipino community came together shortly after Typhoon Haiyan hit the islands. During a fundraiser on November 23, the group collectively raised more than $10,000 for relief efforts.
Also on November 23, The Philippine-American Community of Greater Kalamazoo Area held a fundraiser for the same cause and raised $15,000.
“This is most certainly a week to be thankful,” said Dean Herried, Regional Chief Development Officer for the American Red Cross of West Michigan. “We’re so grateful that when something happens here at home, across the country, or on the other side of the world, our communities come together and find ways to offer their support to the Red Cross.”
Both donations were presented to the Red Cross earlier this week. Donations like this offer crucial support that makes it possible for the Red Cross to deliver its services at no cost to the public.
Those who wish to contribute to Red Cross recovery efforts in the Philippines may donate by visiting redcross.org or calling 1-800-RED-CROSS. Donations can also be made by sending a check to local Red Cross offices and including “Typhoon Appeal” in the memo line.
