The American Red Cross is known for helping to keep Traverse City families healthy and safe. Now with “Pet First Aid,” its training to prevent, prepare for andrespond to animal emergencies, the American Red Cross of Northwest Michigan is spreading the word that it can do the same for four-legged loved ones as well.
Pet First Aid explains emergency care procedures for cats and dogs in simple terms and features step-bystep directions for topics from giving medication to administering CPR and rescue breathing. The Dog and Cat First Aid course is $70 and will be held on Saturday, November 16 from 9am-2pm at the chapter office on South Garfield Ave. in Traverse City. The Red Cross is also offering the courses separately, with Dog First Aid on Saturday, November 16 from 9-11:30am and Cat First Aid on Saturday, November 16 from 11:30am-2:00 pm. These classes are $50 each.
There are 44 million pet owners in the U.S. “This course is a must-have for animal lovers—families with pets need this education,” points out Mary Fischer, Health and Safety Coordinator. “We know pet owners enjoy a very special bond with their pets—they’re a part of the family. Just like with people, accidents and emergencies can happen and being prepared by knowing what to do, could make a lifesaving difference.”
