The American Red Cross Heart of Missouri Chapter will hold a Volunteer Recognition event from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 1 at the Stoney Creek Inn, 2601 S. Providence Rd., in Columbia.

“Volunteers are the engines that power the American Red Cross,” said Executive Director Dave Griffith. “When a call goes out anytime of the day or night to help a family who just lost their home and everything they own in a fire, it’s our volunteers that go to the scene.

“The Red Cross could not do what it does without volunteers. We know they don’t do it for the recognition, but we want them to know how much we appreciate them.”

Red Cross volunteers from Boone, Cooper and Howard counties will be acknowledged during the event.

“Our volunteers give a tremendous amount of their own time, to help others in need,” Griffith said. “It’s a small gesture compared to what they do, but we want to celebrate their hard work by giving them an evening of good fun, good company and good fun.”

A reception begins at 5:30 p.m. with a social hour. Dinner, provided by University Catering, will follow.

The program is the first of six Volunteer Recognition events that will be held throughout the chapter’s 21 counties in April and May.
