Red Cross, Cardinals and KMOV Bring Joy to Military Families

St. Louis Red Cross, Cardinals and KMOV Bring Joy to Military Families
It is an honor for us to be able to show them this small gesture of gratitude during the holiday season.

The extreme cold and falling snow did not stop St. Louisans from driving up to the #Gifts4Kids toy drive in the Ballpark Village lot on Friday, December 6.

The American Red Cross, the St. Louis Cardinals and KMOV teamed up to collect more than 1,100 toys and $1,300 dollars in gift cards. Members of the organizations loaded the gifts into a Red Cross emergency response vehicle, and Red Cross volunteers transported the gifts to Scott Air Force Base. The next morning, Fredbird distributed them during a Breakfast with Santa.

“Servicemen and women and their families make sacrifices for us every day,” said Cindy Erickson, Regional American Red Cross CEO. “It is an honor for us to be able to show them this small gesture of gratitude during the holiday season.”

“The Cardinals are honored to support our military families who make countless sacrifices for us all year long,” said Bill DeWitt III, President of the Cardinals. “We’re just doing our part to make their holiday season a little brighter."

The Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces program has provided humanitarian support to the United States military, veterans and their families for nearly 130 years. It relies on the support of the American people to carry out its mission of service to the 2 million members of the U.S. Armed Forces, 24 million veterans and their families.

Locally, the American Red Cross is a proud member agency of the United Way, which makes significant investments every year in Red Cross services.
