Two exemplary St. Louis Red Cross volunteers and an executive from key local Red Cross partner, the St. Louis Rams, visited Washington, D.C. on March 19 for the annual Red Cross National Awards and Recognition dinner.
During the ceremony, local Red Cross volunteers Judy Jehling and Gladys Stannard, along with Kevin Demoff, Executive Vice President of Football Operations and Chief Operating Officer of the St. Louis Rams, accepted the Red Cross Presidential Award for Excellence for Humanitarian Services.
The Greater St. Louis Region received the award for the 2012 Red Cross Holiday Mail for Heroes Program. The successful holiday mail campaign included a partnership with the St. Louis Rams, and the St. Louis Red Cross Tiffany Circle, of which Jehling and Stannard are members. In all, the program collected more than 40,000 holiday cards to send to active military, their families and veterans in homes and hospitals, both here in the St. Louis area and around the world.
“What an honor it was to travel to our national headquarters and watch our volunteers and partner accept this award,” said Cindy Erickson, Regional CEO of the American Red Cross. “The Red Cross simply guided the program; it really was a community effort—and success.”
The groundbreaking Holiday Mail for Heroes partnership with the St. Louis Rams continues today.
