Red Cross Honors Military In The Dakotas

"We are in the service, but the Red Cross is too." - Col. Paul Bauman, GF Air Force Base

The American Red Cross continues its mission by supporting our service men and women and their families every day, more than a century after Clara Barton first recruited nurses to support the U.S. Army.

That begins with showing appreciation, especially during the holidays. Red Cross staff members, volunteers, and board members presented large holiday cards to seven different military groups across North Dakota and South Dakota this holiday season. These cards were signed by community members in each location as a way of saying ‘Thank You’ for their service to our country, states, and cities.

“We certainly appreciate everything our service men and women do for our communities across the footprint,” said Red Cross Director of Service to Armed Forces, Michele Lewis. “They make tremendous sacrifices for our communities and so do their families.”

These cards were accepted by various National Guard and active military members in Rapid City and Sioux Falls in South Dakota, and in Minot, Bismarck, Grand Forks, and Fargo in North Dakota.

“We are in the service, but the Red Cross is too,” said Col. Paul Bauman of the 319th Wing at the Grand Forks Air Force Base. “You and your team do a lot of great things for our communities and that includes our Air Force family here so thank you for what you do.”
