For over 30 years, a group of dedicated American Red Cross volunteers have operated the Hamburg Loan Closet, loaning donated medical equipment free of charge to people in need across Western New York.
“These volunteers have helped provide over 30,000 wheelchairs, walkers and other pieces of equipment to patients who might not have been able to afford them otherwise over the past three decades,” said Chuck Marra, Western New York Chapter Executive Director. “We can’t thank them enough for their service and dedication to the American Red Cross and the Western New York community.”
As their focus and resources shift to providing their core services, the Red Cross is proud to partner with 2-1-1 Western New York to provide Loan Closet clients with alternative agencies and organizations that can provide the assistance they need.
“The Red Cross is thrilled that 2-1-1 WNY has stepped up to help people that have relied on the Hamburg Loan Closet find other wonderful community groups that can help them,” Marra said. “2-1-1 WNY’s support will allow our volunteers to focus all of their attention on helping the Western New Yorkers prevent, prepare for and respond to disaster; supporting members of our military and their families; and providing life-saving blood services and First Aid, CPR and other health and safety trainings.”
“We’re proud to partner with the Red Cross and help people who use the Hamburg Loan Closet find other agencies that can meet their needs,” said Kelly Dodd of 2-1-1 WNY. “No single agency can meet all the needs of the community. By using our network to make sure their Loan Closet clients are being taken care of, we can help the Red Cross deliver even more of their core services, which are so important to Western New Yorkers.”
