The Finger Lakes Chapter of the American Red Cross will conduct a Disaster Services Training Camp on Oct. 10 - 12 at the Corning Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 524, located at 281 Baker St. The three-day sessions are open to current Red Cross volunteers and partners as well as new applicants who are interested in helping their neighbors affected by disasters, such as fires and floods.
The American Red Cross in the Finger Lakes serves Chemung, Schuyler, Seneca, Steuben, Yates and Wayne counties.
Partners and new recruits will be offered “Disaster Cycle Services Overview,” “Sheltering Fundamentals” and “Sheltering Fundamentals Exercise,” which are pre-requisites for all other Red Cross courses.
Sheltering and feeding are just two of the immediate needs clients experience post-disaster. The American Red Cross works in conjunction with County Emergency Management Services and local fire departments to ensure that essential services are provided in a timely manner.
Interested volunteers should pre-register by Oct. 6 by contacting Kent Collier at firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling 607-936-3766.
