In observance of the 10th Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, the Southern Tier Chapter of the American Red Cross is hosting a presentation of The Pillowcase Project, the renowned preparedness education campaign for children. Similar presentations are happening across the country.
Originally developed by the New Orleans chapter soon after Hurricane Katrina, The Pillowcase Project teaches students about personal and family preparedness, local hazards and basic coping skills. At the end of the presentation, participants receive a sturdy pillowcase to build their personal emergency supply kits, which they’re encouraged to decorate and personalize.
The local Pillowcase Project presentation, open to children ages 8 to 11, is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 29 from 10:30 – 11:45 a.m. at the Red Cross Southern Tier Chapter, 620 East Main Street, Endicott. The program is free. To register, please contact Jill Deskins at 607-785-7207 or email@example.com by Monday, Aug. 17.
