The American Red Cross recently welcomed two new co-chairs to lead its board of directors on Long Island—Palmira Cataliotti, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Winthrop University Hospital and William Macchione, State Training Director, Empire State Carpenters Apprenticeship Committee.
The Long Island Red Cross board is comprised of 38 business and community leaders who volunteer their time to help oversee the organization’s mission on Long Island. The Long Island Red Cross responds to approximately 200 disasters a year and serves more than 2.8 million residents in Nassau and Suffolk Counties.
“I am thrilled to see Palmira and Bill oversee our board of directors on Long Island,” said John Miller, CEO of the American Red Cross on Long Island. “I know that their experience, enthusiasm, and community spirit will allow the organization to continue to grow to meet the needs of the people of Long Island.”
“The Red Cross has and always has had one primary goal: to alleviate human suffering,” said Cataliotti. “I am truly honored to take on a more direct role in supporting this noble cause.”
“To be more involved with the Long Island Red Cross as co-chair is not only an honor but a privilege,” said Macchione. “On Long Island, the true face of the Red Cross is all of its volunteers who, at a moment’s notice, jump into action to help our neighbors in their time of need.”
Cataliotti and Macchione replaced outgoing board chairs Michael J. Ryan, Vice President, The Peelle Co., Christopher J. Kutner, Partner, Rivkin Radler who proudly led the Long Island Red Cross during their 4-year tenures as co-chairs.
