As Winter Storm Pax swept through the Northeast this week, blanketing our area with freezing rain, sleet and snow, the American Red Cross Greater New York Region was prepared to respond. Our Disaster Response team worked closely with our emergency partners in all areas of the region—New York City, Long Island, the Lower Hudson Valley, and Greenwich, Conn.—to monitor the storm’s progress and impact. More than 300 Red Cross volunteers were on standby to help their neighbors should the need arise.
Between February 12 and 13, Greater New York region responded to 17 fires and other emergencies, including a four-alarm blaze in the Bronx, bringing comfort and assistance to close to 100 adults and children.
The Red Cross urges residents to remain prepared for whatever winter weather comes our way this season. Here are winter storm tips to help you stay safe.
