Rochester Area Community Foundation approved a grant for the American Red Cross, Greater Rochester Chapter to hold Leadership Development Camps. The five one-day camps will be held during the 2014-2015 school year for high school students. They will include Red Cross classes in CPR, First Aid, Lifeguarding and Babysitting Training. In addition, the curriculum will provide students with lessons in leaderships, resume writing and job interviews.
“The Red Cross is both excited and proud to be the recipient of a grant from the Community Foundation’s John F. Wegman Fund,” said Judith Nagel, Director of Volunteer & Youth Development for the Western New York Finger Lakes Region. “These funds will help us to mentor and serve deserving young people in the area.”
The Leadership Camps are part of the Next Generation Leaders Program, created to develop high achieving, diverse young leaders across Monroe County. The program gives high school aged students the skills needed to be leaders in their communities and ensure a successful future after graduation. Youths in grades 9 – 12 with a GPA of 2.5 or better are eligible for the program.
Rochester Area Community Foundation works to improve the quality of life in the greater Rochester region by evaluating and addressing community issues, promoting responsible philanthropy, and connecting donors to the critical needs of the community. The John F. Wegman Fund specifically supports concerns of the elderly, character-building opportunities for youth, and improved labor/management relations through education or other means.
