Congratulations to Margaret “Maggie” Hall, a senior at Fayetteville-Manlius High School who was recently named as the recipient of the third Margaret L. Henderson Scholarship. The $1,000 scholarship, funded and named after the former executive of the American Red Cross of Central New York Chapter, is awarded to a young woman in her junior or senior year of high school who has a connection with the Red Cross as a volunteer, blood donor, intern or supporter.
Maggie started volunteering for the Red Cross when she was 8 and has been volunteering at the Red Cross parking lot at the New York State Fair for the past several years. She has also completed many community service projects with organizations such as the Summer Servants program in Syracuse, Bishop Foery Foundation Neighborhood Center in Syracuse, and DeWitt Community Church.
Maggie has been a member of the junior varsity and varsity cheerleading teams at Fayetteville-Manlius, and she was named captain of the varsity team this past December. The team has won local, regional and national cheerleading competitions.
Maggie’s mother, Dorothy Hall, is a current member of the American Red Cross of Central New York Board of Directors and a former board chair.
“Thank you for all that the Red Cross does,” Maggie wrote in her scholarship application. “My mom’s family has been very impacted by the services after her family’s house fire and my aunt needing blood donations. It would be an honor to represent the Red Cross as a scholarship winner as the Red Cross means a great deal to me and my family.”
Maggie said put the scholarship toward her college tuition or books as she plans to enter college this fall and major in either Human Services or Hotel & Hospitality Management.
