The 12th annual Chili Challenge fundraiser for the American Red Cross on Feb. 9 at Francesca’s Banquets and Catering in Ilion raised $1,919, American Red Cross of the Mohawk Valley Community Executive Julie Darling announced today.
The Chili Challenge attracted more than 200 people and featured professional and amateur cooks making the best chili in the Mohawk Valley. Visitors had an opportunity to vote for their favorite chili and taste offerings from competitors in the “Restaurant League” and “Amateur League,” and the family-friendly event also included a 50/50 raffle and DJ Kenny the Promo Guy with music.
It was the fifth consecutive year that the event was held at Francesca’s, and this year’s Chili Challenge raised $300 more than last year, Darling said. All proceeds benefit the American Red Cross of the Mohawk Valley to provide relief to victims of disasters and help Mohawk Valley residents prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.
“We would like to thank all of the Chili Challenge competitors, sponsors and patrons for making this year’s event one of the best in its 12-year history,” Darling said. “As we’ve seen in recent days, disasters can strike our friends and neighbors at any time and this money enables us to help the people who need it most.”
