Red Cross Assists Two Families After Incident in Ilion

Volunteers are available to provide the displaced individuals with emotional support and counseling.

The American Red Cross of the Mohawk Valley provided assistance to eight people from two families who were displaced from their homes by an incident  on High Street in the Village of Ilion Tuesday, Jan. 21.

Red Cross volunteers provided food, clothing and shelter at an area hotel for one family with two adults. The Red Cross also provided food and shelter at an area hotel for another family with two adults and four children.

Red Cross volunteers and staff members are available to provide the displaced individuals with emotional support and counseling, and referrals to agencies that will help them with their recovery.

American Red Cross Disaster Action Team (DAT) volunteers are trained to respond to disasters such as fires, floods and ice storms and administer to the needs of survivors. Red Cross assistance typically includes temporary shelter, financial assistance for food and replacement clothing, replacement medication, and emotional counseling and support.
