Community of Christ Congregation in Beavercreek has provided a safe and fun place for the kids to play at the American Red Cross Shelter by donating a new playground. Bill and Ronda Ritchie; Gary and Elayne Waggoner and Pastor Pat Lawson wrote the Tangible Love Grant Request. There were many volunteers that helped build this playground. Bill Richie was the Program Manager, overseeing the many programs that Community of Christ Church has performed in support of the Red Cross Shelter. Chris Knowles and Brent Sainz were invaluable. They donated equipment and spent many hours preparing the playground for installation of the playground equipment. Volunteers put a total of 240 man hours into the project.
“It was a labor of love” said Pastor Pat Lawson. To see the excited faces of the children at the celebration, we have truly been blessed as a congregation to be able to work with the Greene County Housing Program.” The dedication was held recently and was truly a celebration.
The Community of Christ Church has supported the shelter for 4 years. They helped paint the remodeled Emergency Housing Units; furnished microwaves for the residents; donated diapers and cleaning supplies and did landscaping. In addition to the playground equipment, they donated two surveillance cameras and a fence to protect the residents. “The support has been invaluable for our residents” stated the Shelter Director, Penny Madry-Johnson. “They have made such a difference in the lives of our residents”.
