There’s nothing fun about disasters, but on Saturday, June 13, Landmark Ford and SERVPRO of Tigard/Tualatin are hosting a benefit 5K fun run/walk to support first responders and raise awareness about disaster preparedness. It all takes place at Cook Park in Tigard, with onsite registration beginning at 8 a.m. and the fun run/walk starting at 9 a.m. All proceeds benefit the American Red Cross Cascades Region.
This family-friendly event celebrates the efforts of the American Red Cross, local fire departments, local police forces and other emergency service workers, and includes a preparedness awareness fair for health-minded and preparedness-minded people. The Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue, local police departments and other emergency agencies will be on site with information and tips about what to do before, during and after disasters big and small.
The well-marked, paved walk/run course is a 3.1 mile scenic loop that meanders through adjoining Tualatin City Park and Durham Park. Families, walkers and runners of all ages are encouraged to participate. Pets on a leash and jogging strollers are welcome.
Scott Rosendahl, who represents SERVPRO of Tigard/Tualatin, says that it’s important to recognize and celebrate the efforts of the first responders in our community. In addition, he believes in getting the message out about emergency preparedness. “We can make their job a little easier and help to save lives by providing educational opportunities about how to be prepared for emergencies and what resources are available,” he said. “What better way to do this than by bringing families and local first response services together in a fun atmosphere?”
Online registration is available now at www.FirstResponder5k.com.
