Executive Director of Willamette Chapter Maria Salazar was selected as one of the University of Phoenix’s alumni success stories and is the first person to feature in a national commercial promoting the university. In addition to the commercial, the University of Phoenix features the following story about Maria on their website’s Hall of Success page.
Maria Salazar didn’t have to look very far for what she was after. For years, she drove by a University of Phoenix campus on her way to her nonprofit job, and every time, she’d think about how to advance her career. When she finally decided to turn her thoughts into action, she chose University of Phoenix to help her succeed. The classes taught the relevant skills she was looking for. “I needed to know how to run a nonprofit business, while treating people ethically and motivating them to excel. The Bachelor of Science in Human Services program gave me that opportunity and so much more.”
Now an Executive Director for the American Red Cross, Maria lives in trendy Portland, Oregon, and provides leadership for the Willamette Chapter. As a University of Phoenix alum, her professional network stretches coast to coast, from Southern California, where she earned her degree, to Washington, DC, where she’s worked. When she’s not at the office, Maria kicks up her heels on the dance floor doing salsa and merengue. She says recharging is the key to success in any career. “You have to have balance in your life. It’s so important.”
