The Red Cross Service to Armed Forces Program assists our military service members and their families in so many ways.

On Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, the American Red Cross Services to Armed Forces Program presented the Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center with $4,000 worth of therapeutic medical supplies to be used for patients’ rehabilitative programs and medical services.

Items like craft kits and paint sets will assist patients who are rehabilitating from both physical and mental injuries. Direct patient and family support items including sweat suits, shower clogs and personal hygiene items will ensure the comfort of veteran inpatients during their stay.

Peter M. Brown, Executive CEO said, “The Red Cross Service to Armed Forces Program assists our military service members and their families in so many ways. We are honored to help our veterans as they recover and remain grateful for their service to our country.”

Margaret B. Caplan, Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center Director said, “We are so thankful to our community partners who enhance the world-class healthcare we provide through the donation program. The American Red Cross’s donation will touch many veterans’ lives.”

The Red Cross Service to Armed Forces Program provides emergency communication messaging, information and referral services, disaster services and free re-integration and resiliency workshops to military, veterans and their families. The program also provides volunteers to assist in VA medical facilities. The Service to Armed Forces program received this funding from the federal government to continue outreach in support of members of the United States Armed Forces, National Guard and Reserve, Veterans and their family members.
