Before Hurricane Sandy hit the NYC and NJ Coast and came West, The American Red Cross of Wayne Pike made preparations for a major Disaster. Our Regional Red Cross Disaster Teams of Specialists and Volunteers were called up and Physical Emergency Resources were positioned for deployment where and when needed. We coordinated with all State, County and local Emergency Management Agencies to pool our resources to assist all County residents in need!
In the wake of Hurricane Sandy in October 2012, the American Red Cross Wayne Pike Chapter wanted to shine a spotlight on the men and women who were a beacon of hope in the aftermath of the storm. For this year’s 2013 Patriot Awards, we chose to recognize the Emergency Management professionals in both Wayne and Pike County, who serve as the hub for information and response during all types of emergency incidents. We also chose to honor Delaware Township, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Grace Episcopal Church, Greene-Dreher Volunteer Fire Department, and Dingman Township Volunteer Fire Department, whose efforts all went above and beyond the ordinary.
Each and every one of those honored has taken the Red Cross mission to heart: to prevent and alleviate human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors.
