The Red Cross chapters of the Northeast Pennsylvania region have been doing a great deal to help out our service members and veterans this past holiday season. Thousands of holiday cards have been delivered to make our service members and veterans feel appreciated and thanked for all they do for our country. The Wayne Pike Chapter has done a fantastic job for the Holiday Mail for Heroes program.
A card signing event was held at the Wayne Pike Chapter on Friday, November 22nd, inviting the community to visit and sign holiday cards. A card signing station was also set up on the first floor of the Silk Mill in Hawley, PA. People could come by and drop cards they made into a box to be delivered to service members, veterans and their families.
The Wayne Highlands Community That Cares afterschool students made holiday cards to be distributed as well.
The News Eagle, based in Hawley, PA, published an article highlighting the Wayne Pike Chapter’s efforts. Linda Barney, office manager of the Wayne Pike Chapter, said, “Because members of the military will not be with their families during the holidays, people need to let the servicemen and women know that their hard work and dedication is truly appreciated.”
Holiday Mail for Heroes was a major success for the Wayne Pike Chapter this year. Thank you to Wayne Pike Chapter, the Silk Mill, Wayne Highlands Community that Cares, News Eagle, Linda Barney, all helped with the Holiday Mail for Heroes program, and of course all of our service members and veterans!
