Johnstown Organizations Team Up to Benefit Holiday Campaign

Johnstown Organizations Team Up to Benefit Holiday Campaign
The Holiday Mail for Heroes campaign is a way for Americans to help spread much needed holiday cheer and thanks to the heroes and their families.

Although many people spend the holiday season in the company of close relatives and friends, many of the nation’s heroes can not do the same. While military deployments and hospital stays keep many service men and women away from their loved ones this season, the local American Red Cross, in partnership with 11 local organizations, is doing its part to keep holiday spirits high.

As part of the Red Cross Holiday Mail for Heroes Campaign, the local Red Cross serving the Johnstown area has teamed up with 11 local organizations to sign, collect and distribute holiday cards which send words of thanks and cheer to veterans and deployed service men and women. The following groups will participate in the campaign this season:

•First Commonwealth Bank

•MetLife

•Wessel & Company

•Concurrent Technologies Corporation

•Howard Hanna Heritage Real Estate

•Ameriserv Financial

•Jackson Elementary School

•Richland Elementary School

•Slovenian Savings and Loan

•Commissioner Tom Chernisky

•Central Cambria High School Student Council

“We are grateful to work with extraordinary community members and groups to deliver holiday cheer to those who need it most, whether overseas or in VA hospitals,” said Colleen Sherman, executive director of the local Red Cross. “During the season of giving, this campaign allows anyone to give something that truly means something to our American heroes.”

Holiday Mail for Heroes Campaign

The Red Cross launched the Holiday Mail for Heroes program to enable Americans to “Give Something That Means Something” during the holiday season. The public can send cards of thanks, encouragement and holiday cheer to members of the U.S. Armed Forces, veterans and their military families, many of whom will be far away from home and serving in harm’s way. Red Cross workers will then distribute the cards to military members and veterans in communities around the world.

To be a part of the program, individuals can contact the local Red Cross chapter at 814-262-3170 or mail their holiday greeting cards to the Holiday Mail for Heroes P.O. box:
