Red Cross Helps 14 People After Providence Fire

The Red Cross is helping with emergency housing, food and clothing needs.

PROVIDENCE, R.I., September 5, 2014 – The American Red Cross is helping 14 people – six adults and eight children in three families – after a fire early this morning on Sterling Avenue in Providence.

Four adults and eight children in two families received help with emergency housing and food needs. A family of two adults received help with emergency housing, food and clothing needs.

Red Cross team members Elizabeth McDonald and Melissa Shires responded to assist the families.

The Red Cross is also providing comfort kits containing personal care items such as toothbrushes, deodorant, shaving supplies and other items a family might not have been able to gather in the rush to escape the fire.

American Red Cross disaster assistance is free of charge, a gift made possible by generous donations and the work of volunteers.
