Annual Heroes Breakfast Set for November 15 in Providence
PROVIDENCE, RI, SEPTEMBER 25, 2013 — A Sergeant who saved the life of a baby on a Providence street. Rhode Island National Guard members and staff who helped save the life of a co-worker. A young Lifeguard who saved a drowning child. Father and son volunteer Firefighters who pulled a man from a burning vehicle. These are some of the community heroes recognized at the 2012 American Red Cross Community Heroes of Rhode Island celebration held last year in Providence. The Red Cross is seeking nominations for this year’s event, scheduled for Friday, November 15, in Providence.
“Each year, the Rhode Island Chapter of the American Red Cross honors local citizens from throughout the state who make a positive and significant impact on our community, exemplifying the spirit of our mission,” said American Red Cross Connecticut and Rhode Island Region CEO Mario Bruno.
Bruno said past honorees have represented all ages, backgrounds and walks of life. “Heroes know no age or limitation. We are looking for nominations from the public to help recognize people who have done something extraordinary in service to others or to their community.”
A nomination form is available online at www.redcross.org/RIHeroes, Bruno said. Nominations are due by September 30. Information about the event, set for Friday, November 15, at the Omni Hotel in Providence, is available at the same web address, Bruno said.
