Middle School Students Raise Funds After Typhoon Haiyan
...the students were moved by the scenes of devastation and need...

After Typhoon Haiyan hit the Philippines on Nov. 8, the students at Blythewood Middle School (BMS) decided to act. Kristin Mixson, a teacher at BMS said the students were moved by the scenes of devastation and need. The students, in an effort to join together and provide help, decided to collect cash donations for the Red Cross International Relief efforts. The students were given the opportunity to wear hats to school all day if they made a donation of two dollars. Students also braved some chilly weather to stand in the car pool lines to collect spare change from cars.

Thanks to their hard work and generosity, the Blythewood Middle School students raised $1,202.42 for the Red Cross International Relief efforts in the aftermath of Typhoon Haiyan. Ms. Kristin Mixson, and students Trey Stevens and Tre Sands presented a check to Central SC Chapter Executive Director Bill Cronin on Nov. 25 at their school.
