The American Red Cross of Central SC Chapter announces the selection of Michael Haley, South Carolina’s First Gentleman, to the chapter’s board of directors.
Haley, who returned from a 12-month deployment to Afghanistan as a captain in the South Carolina Army National Guard in December, will serve on the chapter’s board of directors. His role will include serving as a Red Cross advocate, and providing advice and counsel to the chapter executive in developing local strategies to deliver the American Red Cross mission.
“We are thrilled and honored to have Mr. Haley join our Red Cross family. We feel confident that his professional experience, his track record for excellence, his long history of volunteer service, and his strong ties to Columbia and the American Red Cross show that he will make a strong, positive impact on our chapter and on our community,” said Bill Cronin, Executive Director for the American Red Cross Central SC Chapter.
Haley said the American Red Cross holds a special place for him and he was, “honored when asked to serve.”
“The American Red Cross is an incredible organization, and has touched my life since the age of 10, so I feel humbled to give back,” Haley said of serving on the board.
Because of trained disaster volunteers and financial assistance from the community, Red Cross has been able to help more than 2,400 individuals and 700 families affected by disasters in the Palmetto SC region since the first six months of its fiscal year.
