On Thursday at approximately 5:00pm CT, the Oahe Chapter of the American Red Cross opened an evacuation center/shelter for residents displaced from their homes after a man with a gun barricaded himself in a trailer.
Red Cross workers assisted 30 residents by providing a safe place to stay, meals and resources for emotional support. Meals were also provided for the First Responders working at the scene.
The evacuation center/shelter closed at approximately 2:00am CT when residents were allowed to return to their homes. We will continue to provide disaster mental health services to impacted residents.
We are proud of the Oahe Chapter volunteers who served the community during this disturbing incident.
