The storm that slammed into Baja California Sur left roughly 82% of the population in Los Cabos and La Paz without electrical power, damaged roadways, and caused ports to close. People affected by the storm evacuated to 164 shelters to seek refuge.
As U.S citizens flew back into the States, Red Cross volunteers were there to provide comfort to those affected coming in on Airline Flights. “The best thing we can do is help them feel more at ease by providing them a few relief items” said Robbie Conrad, Red Cross worker. “We distributed water, snacks and dinner for travelers passing through or staying at IAH Airport.”
The day after, the Greater Houston Area Chapter received a heartwarming thank you message on their Facebook page. “Thank you so much to the folks from the Houston Red Cross who greeted us hurricane survivors in Houston yesterday. We received water, snacks and hygiene packs and not to mention warm smiling faces!! So grateful!! Thank you!!”
