Nathan Wittkamp has recently been named Executive Director of the Historic Virginia Chapter of the American Red Cross. He brings with him management experience from two other divisions of the Red Cross: Service to Armed Forces and International Services; as well as disaster relief and program development experience domestically and abroad.

Joining Samaritan’s Purse International Relief in 2004, Wittkamp held a number of management positions over programs delivering food aid, medical care, clean water, sewer systems and agriculture. He delivered these services in Sudan, Eritrea and Honduras. Wittkamp started with the Red Cross in 2008 at National Headquarters in Washington DC, on the Operations Team for the South East Asia Tsunami Recovery Program. He also provided management and operations support to the Haiti Assistance Program and other international projects.

In 2010, Wittkamp switched divisions to Service to Armed Forces as a Station Manager at US Naval Air Station, Sigonella, Italy, where he managed Red Cross services supporting military members and their families.

“It is an honor to be asked to lead the American Red Cross, an organization that has been an integral part of this community for 96 years, serving over 250,000 people,” states Wittkamp. “I am excited to build on what I have learned at this incredible humanitarian organization that provides emergency assistance and emotional support to victims of disasters, teaches critical life saving and emergency preparedness skills, supports military members and their families, and collects lifesaving blood products.”

The Historic Virginia Chapter includes Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford and Campbell Counties; Lynchburg City; and the Town of Bedford.

Originally from Raleigh, North Carolina, Wittkamp graduated from the Appalachian State University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree with majors in Management and Marketing and a minor in International Business. Wittkamp, his wife Emily and 19-month old daughter, Ava, reside in Lynchburg.
