Red Cross Assists Swanton Family
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE… (Swanton, Vermont – October 30, 2013) An overnight house fire forced a Swanton, VT family of five from their Webster Road home. Displaced, the family met with American Red Cross volunteers with our Franklin County Disaster Action Team. The volunteers discussed with the family their emergency needs and then made arrangements for temporary lodging at a nearby hotel.
Recovery begins the moment disaster strikes, making it important that help arrives quickly. That work is accomplished by a corps of twelve Red Cross Disaster Action Teams across Vermont and New Hampshire’s Upper Valley. Answering the call day and night, Red Cross volunteers ensure that a displaced family, whether impacted by fire, flood or other natural and man-made disaster, knows that help is there and that they are not alone in their recovery.
The emergency assistance offered by the Red Cross is provided without charge. The volunteer corps delivering this help need not have any prior experience, and any training required to be part of a Red Cross Disaster Action Team is provided at no cost. The work of these teams is supported by the generosity of Red Cross donors and it is this mobilization of donors, teamed with the power of volunteers, that allows the Red Cross to deliver on its humanitarian mission.
