FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE… (Windsor, Vermont – October 14, 2013) Last night, Upper Valley volunteers with the Vermont & New Hampshire Upper Valley American Red Cross answered the call in the wake of a Windsor, VT fire. A house and structure fire at a Route 5 home displaced the homeowner and Red Cross assistance was requested.
The volunteers with the Disaster Action Team responded, meeting with the displaced homeowner. While the homeowner was o.k., regretfully she lost several cats. Temporary lodging was arranged by the Red Cross for the displaced resident and her three dogs. Additional animals at the property, including horses and chickens, were also unharmed and a neighbor is helping to board those animals.
In addition to assisting the homeowner with temporary lodging, financial assistance was provided to help with food and clothing lost in the fire. A referral was also made to a local social service agency that may be able to offer additional assistance. The responding Red Cross volunteers also supported the firefighters and other first responders on the scene by providing food, coffee and other drinks.
All emergency assistance offered by the Red Cross is provided without charge. To enable the Red Cross to provide this assistance, and to support the training and tools required to respond, the Vermont & the New Hampshire Upper Valley American Red Cross relies upon donations made by members of the community.
