Red Cross Assists Displaced Resident

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE… (Lyndonville, VT – July 17, 2014)  Fire destroyed a home at 96 Eastern Avenue in Lyndonville, VT last night, displacing the home’s sole occupant.  Members of the local Red Cross Disaster Action Team (DAT) received the call in the early morning hours and were asked to assist.  The gentleman, who was treated for burns as a result of the fire, was provided immediate temporary lodging with plans made to reconnect later today to explore additional Red Cross assistance.

Volunteer Disaster Action Teams located throughout the Vermont & the New Hampshire Upper Valley Region of the American Red Cross respond day or night to meet with victims of fire, flood and other disasters to ensure that their emergency needs are met.  Traditionally, this includes assistance with food, clothing, and temporary lodging.  The trained corps of volunteers also provides referral information regarding additional state, local and charitable resources that may help on the road to recovery.  The Red Cross can also offer disaster health and disaster mental health services.

The American Red Cross is always seeking new volunteers, an effort that helps the organization maintain its ability to provide timely and compassionate assistance to people across our region that have been impacted by disaster.  To be a part of our group of dedicated volunteers, no prior experience is necessary and all the training you will need is free and will be provided.  To find out more about becoming an American Red Cross volunteer, go to or contact Angela Russell at 802-660-9130, ext. 107 or
