Free Volunteer Training Weekends Coming to Surrounding Counties

OKC family speaks with Red Cross volunteer
No matter the time of day or where the crisis is, the Red Cross will be there to provide help and hope to all victims of disasters.

When disasters strike, the Red Cross responds. Unfortunately, disasters are not uncommon. Here in the Inland Northwest, our local Chapter provides service to an eleven county area and responds to a disaster like a house fire an average of once every 48 hours. No matter the time of day or where the crisis is, the Red Cross will be there to provide help and hope to all victims of disasters.

The Red Cross can’t do this, however, without the support of trained disaster response volunteers and more are needed today in every community.

Through a grant from the Inland Northwest Community Foundation, we are excited to bring free disaster volunteer training opportunities to Ferry, Stevens, Whitman, Pend Oreille and Bonner Counties.

Volunteers who participate in free Red Cross disaster training will be prepared to help their neighbors when that help is needed most. Once trained, volunteers are placed on a Disaster Action Team (DAT) which responds immediately to a local disaster when called by emergency dispatch. Volunteers who are trained as local disaster responders are also qualified to deploy to national disasters when needed.

Classes offered during the free training weekends will be:

-Disaster Services: An Overview

-Psychological First Aid

-Client Casework

-Shelter Fundamentals
