ABOUT THE EVENT:
The highly anticipated 2013 Red & White Dinner Dance will include cocktails, dinner, dancing and entertainment. This year, we are thrilled to honor The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) in recognition of its support and generosity following Superstorm Sandy and its tireless commitment to helping those in need in the community. Please join us for this festive event to support the Red Cross and celebrate with NYRA as they accept this honor.
ABOUT AMERICAN RED CROSS SERVICES:
The American Red Cross is the nation's premier emergency response organization. As part of a worldwide movement that offers neutral humanitarian care to the victims of war, the American Red Cross distinguishes itself by also aiding victims of devastating natural disasters. The Red Cross on Long Island offers disaster relief services to help our neighbors when they need it most, providing those affected with compassionate assistance: a safe place to stay, along with food, clothing and emotional support. The Red Cross also collects blood to save lives, teaches lifesaving and emergency preparedness skills and supports military members and their families.
In October 2012, Superstorm Sandy caused a tremendous amount of destruction in our own backyard. Lives were lost, people were displaced, and homes were destroyed. Thanks to the support and generosity of partners like NYRA, the Red Cross has been able to be at the forefront of the response to assist those in need on Long Island and will continue to assist directly throughout the long-term recovery.
And while Sandy is most present on our minds, we also remember those affected by many other tragedies. In 2012, the Red Cross responded to more than 2,300 local emergencies in New York and Long Island, including fires, building collapses—even tornadoes.
The Red & White Dinner Dance, our annual fundraiser, supports all lines of service and makes it possible for the Red Cross on Long Island to continue helping our neighbors during their time of greatest need. Your support is maximized because an average of 91 cents of every dollar the American Red Cross spends is invested in humanitarian services and programs.
