What is a Hero? The textbook definition is "one of distinguished courage or ability, admired for one's deeds and noble qualities."
The 8th Annual American Red Cross Illinois Capital Area Chapter Heroes Breakfast, presented by Bank of Springfield, will take place on April 19, 2013 at the Crowne Plaza in Springfield. All proceeds from this special fundraiser event benefit American Red Cross Local Disaster Relief.
Nine local heroes will be honored for performing a heroic deed/extraordinary act or for their lifetime of service to their community in nine hero categories at this year's event:

In addition to honoring local heroes, we'll honor the creativity of several local youths with a writing contest featuring essays, short stories and poetry about a hero in their life.
A small number of submissions selected by a panel of community judges will have their work recognized at this year’s Heroes Breakfast and receive a prize.
