The “Battle of the Badges” 3-on-3 basketball tournament for players affiliated with fire departments, police agencies and ambulance corps will be held at noon Sunday, April 28, at Veterans Memorial Park, 247 Burwell St., Little Falls (across from RD’s Gorge View Lanes).
Proceeds from the “Battle of the Badges” will benefit the Mohawk Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross, which includes Herkimer, Oneida and Otsego counties. The event is sponsored by the Little Falls Fire Department and Police Department unions.
Each team will consist of three to five players, and prizes from the double-elimination tournament will go to the first-, second- and third-place teams. The cost is $50 per team; call Dennis Harrigan at (315) 868-4595 by Sunday, April 21, to register a team. Teams are asked to report to the registration table at 11:30 a.m. April 28.
Working families in the Mohawk Valley often require emergency assistance as a result of fires, floods and other disasters, and the Red Cross provides relief to disaster victims and helps people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.
From July 2012 through March 2013, the Red Cross’ Mohawk Valley Chapter provided $70,686 to 340 people from 127 families who were displaced from their homes; provided 86 emergency communications and $1,831 in financial assistance to members of the Armed Forces and their families; and trained thousands of individuals in CPR, First Aid and other health and safety courses.
