Local Red Cross Disaster Responders Training Weekend

Red Cross instructor training people in a First Aid CPR AED class

The American Red Cross will hold a special Red Cross Disaster Responders Training Weekend on Saturday, 11/17 & Sunday, 11/18 from 8am-7pm (depending on the track chosen) in the Santa Barbara Chapter. This will be the first of several training weekends focused on getting our new and existing volunteers ready to help us respond to disaster here and across the country. This training is being offered at no charge to participants.

While we need volunteers in many areas, these three areas have been identified as critical volunteer needs. The track you choose will determine the length of time needed to attend.

  • Drivers for our Emergency Response Vehicles – drive the Red Cross ERV to affected areas after disasters and provide water, hot meals and other critical supplies. (Saturday and Sunday)
  • Client Caseworker – on Disaster Relief Operations, Client Caseworkers go out into the neighborhoods hardest hit by disaster and assist individuals by providing support, directing them to community resources and distributing items for recovery (Saturday and Sunday)
  • Disaster Assessment volunteers When disaster hits, Disaster Assessment volunteers go out into the community, survey the damage, and identify the areas that were impacted. The data they gather is then used to determine the neighborhoods that are in the most need of immediate Red Cross assistance. (Saturday Only)
  • Training Location: Santa Barbara Chapter, 2707 State Street, Santa Barbara

If you are interested in signing up for one of the trainings, please email trainingventura@redcross.org or call (805) 543-0696 x 21
