Team Firestopper - Reno and Incline Village

Team Fire Stoppers Overview

Every year, more than 3,500 Americans die in home fires and over 18,000 are injured as a result. In 2012 alone, the American Red Cross of Northern Nevada was able to help 160 families due to home fires. On average, the Red Cross of Northern Nevada responds to a home fire every 48 hours. Team Firestoppers launched in October of 2012 in the hopes of eliminating home fires in the Northern Nevada region.

For the second year in a row, the Red Cross of Northern Nevada is partnering with local fire departments to make homes fire resistant with our Team Firestopper program. We aim to reduce the number of home fires through our Team Firestopper program by providing fire safety information and Preparedness Kits. As a Team Firestopper client, the goods and services you will receive are completely free of charge. Keep your eyes open for more information about Team Firestoppers in Winnemucca and Elko in November!

Team Firestopper Returns – Season 2!

Join us as Team Firestopper embarks on its second season of providing fire prevention and safety information to members of our community! With your help, we can dramatically increase the number of individuals who receive this life-saving information and keep the community safe! Last year, Team Firestopper was able to increase awareness and safety for 29 homes throughout the Reno and Sparks areas. This year, we want to continue to reach out to members in the Reno and Sparks areas, as well as those residing in Incline Village, NV.

In efforts to reach as many residents as possible, we are offering two different means of receiving fire prevention and safety education information best suited to each individual in our community:

October 26th - Reno & Sparks, NV

  • 11:00am - 4:00pm
  • (Participants must reside in Reno or Sparks)
  • October 26th - Incline Village

  • 11:00am - 4:00pm
  • (Participants must reside in Incline Village)
  • Fire Safety Canvassing:

Team Firestopper will have volunteers working throughout the community to distribute fire prevention education and safety information. This option is ideal for those who do not feel comfortable with entering the homes of residents. Contact the chapter at (775)856-1000 to sign up.

    In-Home Safety Visits:

Team Firestopper is working throughout the Reno/Sparks/Incline areas to provide In-Home Safety Visits, in which participants will receive fire prevention & safety information as well as training on home hazards. Through these visits, teams consisting of local firefighters and Red Cross Volunteers will conduct a hazard hunt, safety makeover, and assist families in developing a disaster plan. In addition, families will receive a FREE smoke detector, carbon monoxide detector, fire extinguisher and a preparedness kit. If you would like the American Red Cross and local fire departments to provide an In-Home Safety Visit, please call (775) 856-1000.
