On May 8, the San Diego/Imperial Counties Chapter joins hundreds of American Red Cross chapters throughout the United States and 185 other Red Cross and Red Crescent National Societies around the world in celebrating World Red Cross Day.
World Red Cross Day is celebrated each year, in honor of Henry Dunant, who founded the International Red Cross Red Crescent Movement nearly 150 years ago.
To mark this observance, Red Cross invites San Diegans to celebrate World Red Cross Day at the local Red Cross headquarters in Kearny Mesa on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 from 12:45-2:00p.m.
This event will highlight international services including an inspirational story from a guest speaker from Rwanda who was reunited with two of his sons through Red Cross international family tracing services after being separated during the Rwandan/Zairean Genocide period.
In addition, event attendees will watch the short film The Story of an Idea to learn about Henry Dunant and the creation of the Red Cross and can enjoy authentic East African food.
