Nominee is of high school age or younger, who helped someone in a time of crisis or worked toward the betterment of our community. Nominee may have helped improve someone’s quality of life, avoid or acted during an emergency, or performed a lifesaving action.
Good Samaritan Hero
This award is presented to a person who helped someone in a time of emergency. Nominee in this category may have used lifesaving skills such as CPR, water rescue or first aid to assist someone. Nominee may have reached out to help another by providing a safe and secure environment to ensure their well-being.
Law Enforcement Hero
Nominee is a law enforcement professional who has demonstrated an outstanding level of service to the people in their community going beyond the recognized duty of their profession. This nominee could be on or off-duty at the time of the incident.
Fire Rescue Hero
This category honors firefighters and search & rescue professionals who have demonstrated an outstanding level of service to the people of their community beyond the call of duty. This nominee could be on or off-duty at the time of the incident.
Community Partner Hero
An individual, community group, neighborhood, organization or local company may be nominated in this category. These persons demonstrate a commitment to improving and making a meaningful difference in the community.
Health Care Hero
Healthcare professionals are nominated for this award. This category honors a person who has demonstrated an outstanding level of service to the people of their community. This nominee could be on or off-duty at the time of the incident.
This award is presented to a member of our armed forces (active, reserve, retired, commissioned or non-commissioned) whose life saving action or service to the community goes above and beyond the call of duty.
Animal Rescue Hero
This award is presented to an animal handler or animal that has used trained or innate skills to save lives in times of emergency.
Spirit of the American Red Cross
This honor is given to acknowledge a person’s lifetime of achievement to the mission of the Red Cross. It may be awarded posthumously.
Real Hero Award Requirements
1. The act of courage or humanitarian service can be ongoing or have occurred any time after January 1, 2014. *Spirit of the American Red Cross award honors a person’s lifetime of achievement to the mission of the Red Cross.
2. Nominees must reside, work, or be active in Mariposa, Merced, Madera, Fresno, Tulare and/or Kings Counties.
3. Award winners must be willing to participate in interviews and photographs for media and promotional purposes and must be present to accept the award the night of event.
