Long Beach - Hometown Heroes

Hometown Heroes Awards celebrate the selfless acts of courage and humanitarian service by real people in our communities. These individuals' extraordinary acts exemplify the American Red Cross mission to prevent and alleviate human suffering. They embody the spirit of the American Red Cross to turn compassion into action, to:

  • assist all people affected by disaster across the country and around the world
  • ensure that our communities are ready and prepared for disasters
  • connect all members of our armed services and their families to support and comfort
  • assure in emergencies, individuals are trained, ready to use Red Cross skills to save lives
  • What are some examples of heroic acts?

  • using CPR or assisting a choking person
  • providing first aid for an accident victim
  • rescuing someone from drowning/water rescue
  • providing outstanding humanitarian services to the Armed Forces or Veterans
  • helping make our community ready and prepared for disasters
  • Who should be considered?

    1. The Hero must live, work or go to school in one of our 9 cities or the event must have happened in one of the 9 cities served by the Rio Hondo Chapter.

    2. The heroic act must have occured outside of the normal course and scope of the Hero's usual and

    customary work.

    3. The heroic event must be a single incident and not part of a disaster or catastrophic event


    Nominations are reviewed by a committee of dedicated volunteers. You will be contacted by the American Red Cross within 60 days of submitting the nomination.
