Dal Cannady Heroes Walk for the American Red Cross
Dal Cannady has been WTOC's bureau chief since 1996, but he's been a reporter in Southeast Georgia since 1990. Before coming to the Southeast News Leader, Dal served as anchor/news director for the CNN/Headline News affiliate in Statesboro. Dal is a dedicated Red Cross Board Member and whenever a disaster strikes in rural Georgia he passionately reports on the work of Red Cross volunteers who often meet clients on their front lawns after losing everything they own.
For the third year in a row Dal is walking to raise awareness of the mission of the American Red Cross.
Along his walk he will accept donations from caring community businesses, municipalities and residents. In the true spirit of neighbors helping neighbors these donations will place resources in the hands of volunteers who lend their hearts and hands when disaster strikes.
Along the way he will stop by local restaurants to share Red Cross stories, receive hugs and wait a few tables for more donations. His walk will average 13 miles per day over 7 days.
Dal will kick off the event with a fundraiser at Harry’s Barbeque in Claxton on Tuesday evening February 25th. His Hero walk will begin on Wednesday, February 26th on 301 South in Claxton, GA.
He will complete his walk at Vandy’s at the Statesboro Mall on March 4th.
In total he will walk 97 miles across rural Georgia in support of the American Red Cross!
